Mazzy The Mermaid Princess by Carol Eliassen

Queen Eldora is banished by her husband the King from her immortal home to live among the human race as a mortal woman. A miracle occurs during the birth of her Granddaughter that sets her free and drives her to find out the true reason of her betrayal.  Along the way she begins to understand what motivates her and stays true to herself when it comes to love and forgiveness even while facing her greatest enemy.

And so it begins:

“Eternity begins and ends with the ocean’s tides” - Unknown Author

Something was different today. The tides of the Caspian Sea seemed to sway in perfect rhythm. I cannot fully understand it or describe it in perfect detail. Trust me it was different. It seemed that something perfect and magical was happening in the seas below. I did not know what but whatever it was, I could imagine it as beautiful and pure. You could actually smell it in the air with each inhalation of pure misty salt water.

I was on the beach near the city of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The sand seeped in between my toes as I walked barefoot along the beach. It was so soft it felt like a touch of smooth silk. I dusted it off as I started to climb the stairs to the pier that stood alone near my hotel.

The beauty of the surrounding sea, beach, and mountains astounded me with each step. I put on my sandals as I walked up on the creaky boards and headed out to the end of the pier. The waves were crashing into it in perfect harmony as if it were the beat of one’s own heart.

As I ventured to the end of the pier to take in the view, I met an old woman who sat in a fold out chair staring out to sea. She seemed out of place. She had a blanket wrapped from the neck down that had some ancient pictures and Arabic writing embroidered on it. She had long flowing black and silver hair and there were deep lines that adorned her face. She continued staring out to sea as though no one had approached. It seemed as if she was watching for something on the horizon as she scanned it back and forth with her eyes.

My name is Katrina Nelson, a journalist that covers governmental events, I happened to be in this magnificent city only for a few days to report on a trip made by the President of the United States. The trip was almost over except for the Gala dinner at the estate of one of the most prominent families in town tonight. I needed a break, so I chose to take a walk along the beach ending up here on the pier. Call it destiny or whatever you like for missing that dinner, I have no regrets. I found the greatest story of all time told to me by an old woman sitting on a pier in a broken fold up chair wearing an old blanket staring out to sea.

This is the old woman’s story.

A Whim to Write
On the art of starting again

I have a whim to write so write I will.
Can’t believe I am being this still.

I type and I type to no avail.
I can’t believe it, so I guess I will.

What says the key — can it really be
an a or a y? I really can’t say why.

I have a whim to write, so write I will.
When night time comes, I pick up my quill.

Some say I’m lazy and others say naught.
When I sit here and write, I’m not such a snot.

I love the sound of the keys that clank,
or the pen that strikes as I sit down to write.

Well here we go again, picking up where we left off —
not quite sure what to write, but at least it’s a start.

Good night my protagonist.
It was good to see you again.
I’ll finish your scene without you letting out a scream.

The days are long and the nights too short.
I’ll finish your story sometime in the morning.

With coffee brewed and in the mood,
I’ll pick up where we left off,
and again we will start.
