A coin has only two sides: heads or tails. Sometimes we need an analogy to get the attention of people who look at only one side of the coin and ignore the other. Are you one of them?
Do you know (especially in this last midterm election) what platform your candidates were really running on? Did you look up their voting history (if they have one), see what their Church pulpit teaches, and whether they even go to Church? It often pays to also look up what tree that apple fell from, if you get my drift. Did you look at one issue and say I will vote for them because of this ONE issue, yet ignore all the other issues you could never truly align with? Yet you aligned with their platform when you voted for them! Don't get me wrong, no candidate is perfect, so there will be some things you may disagree with, but there are some major issues as a Christian you just can't ignore. You know what they are.
Many did, and why? My guess is that they listened to one side of the coin and not the other, refusing to do their own homework. Who pays for this? You, your children, and their children.
Do they align with business owners and give them a tax break so they can hire more workers, who may be your friends, neighbors, even your relatives? If people get laid off, will you blame the business, not the government that charged them so much or added unduly burdensome regulations that left them with no choice but to leave your home state?
When you looked at other states you thought leaned too far one way or the other, did you ignore that too, thinking, "It can't happen here"?
I'm an independent voter now. I'm looking not only at the platform someone is running on, but also their life background, their family background, their voting record, what they say to different groups in different areas of the country, and even around the world. I want to know who is backing the political policies they say they want to implement if they win an election. I want to know what they said originally and what they changed mid-election cycle to win. I want to know, and you should, too!
So, in the next election cycle, turn off the noise and dive deep into everything you get the privilege to vote on in your district/state. It's not only a privilege but also necessary to keep our country strong and safe for the next generation.
